Gary's Story | CENTURY 21

Gary's Story < >

I’m a Colorado native, resident of Fort Collins since 1971, and a graduate of Fort Collins High and CSU. In fact, my entire family still lives in Fort Collins. Over the years, “the Fort” has evolved from a sleepy college town of 40,000 people to a bustling, world-class city of 140,000. You wouldn’t believe the changes I’ve seen!

Prior to becoming a realtor, I was part of Scuba Schools International (SSI), the second-largest brand of diver certification in the world (http://www.divessi.com). For 18 memorable years I traveled and dove in the Caribbean, Hawaii, and many states. I meet Jean Michael Cousteau, Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Neilson, Sylvia Earle, Zale Perry, Scott Carpenter, and many pioneers of diving. My father, Bob Clark, is a member of the Diving Hall of Fame, class of 1998. DEMA Hall of Fame

Over the years at SSI, I authored four books, created numerous education programs, and developed or collaborated on core products that resulted in $1,792,000 in sales. I earned a 20% share of the company. In 2004 I became President and increased profit by 43.95%. In 2008, I negotiated the sale of SSI to a Germany-based buying group and resigned from the company.

After taking some time off, I became an Area Manager for Dale Carnegie Colorado in 2010. I was able to take all the great Dale Carnegie courses (some many times), so I became very proficient with Dale Carnegie’s human relations principles and sales processes. When I left the company, I was Dale Carnegie’s top salesperson in Colorado.

With proceeds from the sale of SSI, my wife and I started buying rental property in 2009, and in 2010 we formed Rooftop Property Management, LLC. We currently own and lease five properties in Fort Collins and Loveland.

Wanting to know more about real estate contracts, laws, and processes, I decided to attend real estate school in 2011. After passing the real estate exam (on the first try!), John Humpal and I started talking about selling real estate. John is my brother-in-law and one of the best realtors I’ve ever met. In January 2012, I decided to join Century 21 Humpal.

When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy an active lifestyle with my wife, Bettie. We enjoy travelling around Colorado, America, Europe, and other countries. We visit museums and restaurants in Denver, and see an occasional Rockies game. We take advantage of the wonderful live theatres we have in Fort Collins (Openstage and Ba Bleu), music venues, our many restaurants, and our beautiful Old Town. I’m also a huge CSU Rams fan, with season tickets for football and men’s basketball.
